Internal WWAN Antenna?

What is it and does this affect whether I have wireless internet connection? My family has a router that can connect to internet and I was wondering does the internal wwan antenna allow a laptop to connect to internet through the router or does the laptop already have wireless internet internally?

The internal WWAN antenna is actually a set of two wires that connect to the wireless networking card within the laptop, and run on either side of the laptop screen to maximize wireless reception. The Antenna itself does not provide internet connectivity. In this day and age, you may have difficulty finding other examples of Antennas around, but your portable radio has one (the telescoping silver metal thing that folds into the back) the car radio has one (most likely it is within the windshield though).

Antennas just make it easier to receive a signal. An Antenna still needs to be connected to a device that actually receives the signal. So, with or without your Internal WWAN Antenna, your laptop would still have a wireless network card. Without the antenna, the range of that card would just be very limited.

Can your laptop get on the internet without connecting to a wireless router? I don't know. I don't know what make and model laptop you have. A few laptops do indeed come with Wireless Broadband Modems, as well as Internal Wireless Networking cards. However, if your laptop came with a Wireless Broadband Modem, you would know it as such, and you would be paying a monthly fee to use it. So, there is a 99% chance that your laptop only has a standard Wireless Networking card, and you would have to connect to your family's router to get online.
