Will painting a bedroom wall with magnetic paint affect our WiFi?
I want to do something really cool to my 14 year old son's room. He wants a black room, which I'm hesitant to do. I was thinking about magnetic paint because he loves to put posters and pictures up and I'm tired of seeing scotch tape on his walls. I read a blog that said it will reek havoc on WiFi. Does anyone know if it will be a problem? Also, if anyone has experience with magnetic paint...is it really strong enough?
I think it will depend on the strength of your wireless router. Seeing as how all magnetic paint works, it's just flakes of iron in a paint base. It'll act like any other kind of barrier between your router and the computer.
Think of you using a laptop in your car while the router is in the house. Kinda the same effect. It's harder for the wi-fi to penetrate the room but it's not impossible. Of course putting the router as close as you can so the signal is at it's strongest will help.
Upgrading to a Wireless G router could help. But it also depends on the thickness of the paint you lay down too. Too thick and it's like radiation trying to penetrate Lead.
So really it's gonna depend on your equipment and the paint you use. There's no way to tell for sure until you do it.
