I have a just bought a Netgear RangeMax wireless router. But I am finding the installation extreamly confusing!?

Today I just bought a laptop Toshiba and a NETGEAR RangeMax wireless router, cable, and Ive just installed one of the cd's, adapter and am trying to install the following and I can not work continues by saying that the modem is not connected to the computer or that there is no interent connection (I'm still on the internet now: S) The router has come without instructions and I'm lost, honestly, can anyone help? and I saw the phone number to ring, but seen as I have a landline i may not sound so Free: (Many thanks in advance: D the model is WPN824

To install it, connect the ethernet cable to the router and then plug in another router ethernet cable to your computer and run the set up cd. When finished, remove the Ethernet cable from your computer. Finally, turn off the modem and router, then turn the modem and wait to load and turn on the router (do not make the two together) then right click the network icon in the taskbar> connect to a network or configuration launch service / show all wireless networks ect ... highlight your router and connect
