WLAN mini-pci card question?

The laptop's specs says it supports Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG 802.11b/g will a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG work? What's the difference?
Basically I need to know if my HP Compaq TC4200 Tablet can use the 3945ABG card. I can't find anything to suggest not but I thought I should ask before I go through the trouble of installing it.

802.11 is wireless standard. letter after it indicates revision (a,b,...n). revisions may affect different things. most important revisions are b,g,n.

so one obvious difference is band (later card also supports a band) which can be handy if you travel a lot and need to connect to variety of networks (even vanila ones).
the other thing to check is range and encryption.
