PCI Compliance for Dummies

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a protocol created by card companies credit to help protect against security threats when payment card processing. The credit card companies formed the PCI Security Standards Council to create a set of minimum standards for merchants who store, process and transmit cardholder data. A number of violations of high-level information cardholder at the commercial level inspired the implementation of the PCI DSS.

Now, retailers of all sizes must be compatible with PCI to to handle payment card transactions. Different payment brands to comply with all standards. The rules (version 1.1) are divided into six principles and requirements for achievement of each principle:

7. Restrict access to cardholder data taking and need to know
8. Assign a unique ID for each person with computer access
9. Restrict physical access to cardholder data

Monitor and Test Networks
10. Monitor and control all access to network resources and cardholder data
11. Regularly test security systems and processes

Maintain Security Policy Information
12. Maintain a policy that addresses Information security

The object of the PCI Data Security Standard is to require merchants to implement the necessary measures to protect cardholder data from hackers and scammers. In this way, cardholders do not have to worry that when paying for something in a store or online can be inadvertently providing of swindlers with the information they need to steal his identity and bring devastation to your credit report.
