The importance of PCI compliance
Before the PCI DSS standard was established several card brands to establish their own security programs to protect Data from the card holder and identity theft due to existing commitments data happens at many levels.
In 2006, the five major card brands (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB) then decided to unify their policies and procedures under a universal standard which was called the Payment Card Industry Standard Data Security (PCI DSS). The PCI board regulates the payment industry and ensures that all entities accepting, storing or transmission of card data Credit adhere to the PCI DSS. The aim is to reduce the number of security breaches and protect the card brands.

- ensure continued customer confidence in using payment cards
How does an organization achieve PCI compliance?
An organization can achieve PCI compliance, adjusting to the 12 security requirements established in the PCI DSS. Depending on a commercial level organization that is accepting, storing or transmitting data on the card can become PCI DSS compliance, either by submitting a validated SAQ (SAQ), or undergo a site assessment with a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA).
The level of trade depends on the volume of transactions are being handled per year. An organization that is responsible for 6 million transactions or more must have a site assessment carried out each year by a QSA and analysis Quarterly net.
However, an organization that is responsible for 20 thousand to 6 million transactions per year may complete an SAQ, but must also submit quarterly analysis of its external network in order to conform to PCI compliance. Management for organizations with fewer than 20,000 transactions per year should also undergo quarterly scans on your network and complete an SAQ.
