How do I get my wireless card to work?

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 with a Dell Wireless 1470 Dual-Band WLAN miniPCI Card. The card was working fine for 2 years and now it suddenly stopped working. I still get signal strength but only 36.0 Mbps not 54.0 Mbps(which is needed to run internet), even when I do get 54.0 Mbps for a while and I go to internet, it doesn't work. It's not the wireless router because I had it checked for faults.

First go to the Dell site and check for updates to the drivers. Second, check for other routers in your area using the same channel. You may need to go to a different one. I always recommend 11 for isolation from a lot of interference. Third, check the antenna positioning. On the router it should be pointing up. The laptop should be in a flat panel plane with back of screen toward router. I have doubts there is a problem with a 36Mbps signal unless outside interference is affecting the signal. Distance will have an effect of lowering the signal speed. Blocking can be caused by mirrors, appliances, brtck walls, pipes in walls. and duct work. Hope this gives some ideas of resolution.
