What is the solution for coaxial cable creep ?
Intermittently the internet cable modem LED's shows that it is offline.
After removing and replacing the coaxial cable from the cable signal splitter, the signal is restored and the modem is back online.
What causes this problem and how can it be prevented when uses a cable signal splitter?
Thanks in advance for your help.
A little more information will help a fair bit. The first question i would put forward would be what type of splitter is it? 2 way, 3 way, etc. And what is the Strength of the splitter 5-500 MHZ, 5-1 GHZ etc.
From what it sounds from the information you have provided thus far is that it seems like you have maybe one of two problems, maybe both. You may have a bad splitter (If you pay less then $10 for a splitter it's not going to work as good or last as long) Make sure all of your splitters are at least 1 GHZ. If this was a splitter provided by your Cable company, contact them so they can replace it for you.
If replacing the splitter does not resolve the issue for you, You more then likely have a weak signal coming to the modem. You may not be able to determine this yourself. Some modems will allow you to go to; 192.168.100.1
to view the signal strength at the modem. You should have a Transmit of around >40 dBmV or <50 dBmV and a Receive of <10 dBmV and >-10dBmV. Now this tends to vary from provider to provider so this isn't assured
When in doubt, i would recomend calling your provider and having them book a trouble call for you. They can check the signal and modem functions alot easier then you would be able to do yourself.
