I have been trying to jumps train my 6 year old new forest pony for 6 months?
I have been training my pony for 6 months now and one week we will be jumping 3-4ft perfectly then the next lesson we will get to a pole or a small cross pole and he will shy and run out. I generally have to get someone to coax him over it for me. Then we dont really get much higher jumps unless we are lucky. Then after a while he gets really lazy and wont even walk near the jump. e.g the other day i trotted up to the jump and then stopped dead when we got within 2 metres of it. PLEASE HELP TO MAKE HIM A CONFIDENT JUMPER AND CONSISTANT PLEASE
Also after he wont go near the jump, he then will canter and listen to you when you go the other way to the jumps. And he will be jumping perfectly for about 5/6 jumps then run out. I dont know wether its what im doing or wether hes not confident or is it both of us. HELP.
Get his back checked by a horse physio, my mare did things a bit like this, turns out she had a really badly pulled muscle that tweaked when doing certain things, but not all the time so mostly she would jump, then her back would hurt and she would refuse because she was scared it would hurt again
Also, dont jump every day, or jump in different places/settings/ways e.g go for a ride and find a small log or something to jump (make sure its safe!) try different areas, yards, fields, play games like chasies with friends over jumps so he learns it as fun and not a chore to jump 
Try some exercises like raised poles and ask and instructor to watch you jump to make sure the horse is comfortable and you arent doing anything wrond with your hands/seat
