Is it safe to replace the wifi card in my DELL inspiron 15 with a atheros wifi card?
Is it safe to replace the wifi card in my DELL inspiron 15 with a atheros wifi card? If yes will it work?
The reason i want this is i need to do packet capturing, which is not supported in my current card.
Replacing a wireless NIC should be safe. Support for hardware comes from your operating system.
If you're running Windows XP/Vista/7 then you should be perfectly fine.
I run Linux as my main operating system and I used to have an Atheros chipset wireless NIC before it broke. It was sometimes a bit of a pain to get it working as I needed to use the madwifi driver. This is probably no longer much of an issue, however, as Linux wireless NIC support has increased greatly since then.
In short, you should be fine, just make sure your computer is switched off when you're swapping the NICs.
